where to buylive stock

LFS is the way to go. Trust everyone on this. Not to say many people don't get good deals on whats out there. But, considering how much or lfs supports the hobby i wouldn't consider anywhere else. If they don't have instock what you want ask them to order it for you. That way you get to inspect health and true size prior to purchase. Just my 2 cents for what that is worth.

They are a touch more expensive than other online retailers, but it's worth every penny for something rare and finicky.

Gary/ reefman5511 is absolutely correct - SWP and ARC are both very good. Here in Lockport you could also visit Pets Plus, not nearly the quality of the first 2 mentioned, but large amount of dedicated tanks of marine fish and inverts - can occasionally find a nice specimen or two. That being said, I live just a few minutes from the Lockport Store, but travel to SWP and ARC alot because of the quality of specimens and equipment.

I ordered from reefhotspot.com about 6 months ago and my stuff is doing very well :) Pretty good prices and have specials regularly. But IMO lfs is the way to go because you see the specimen prior to purchase.

+1 for LFS and LiveAquaria. I've heard good things about Blue Zoo Aquatics too (another Internet vendor), though I've never purchased from them.

Local members right here on RC is another good choice. Post what your looking for and someone might just have it and want to sell. I have yet to have a bad experience with any of the locals!! :D

This is only MY EXPERIENCE:

ARC and SWP are the best, though I have better luck at ARC as I tend to have a more expensive coral taste. Not knocking SWP as I go there from time to time as well. SWP has good things, but from what I have experienced ARC has the more original pieces. I also have better luck with ARC livestock.

Pets plus is pretty decent in lockport, but I have only been there once and they had good things. (Not much experience with them)

Markhiems dosent even compare to that of ARC or SWP. Staff is not very friendly and dosent seem to know as much as the staff at ARC or SWP.

There is a store called the fish place in tonawanda, stictly fish though. Good looking fish but they usually carry the same fish in stock it seems. (Not much variety)

Hands down ARC in my opinion is the best with SWP in second for reef tanks..Any other store dosent compare in the buffalo area.

Sorry for the long post lol..just sharing my experiences, and again thats only MINE, everyone has a different opinion.

As far as online purchases, I say support your local fish store. (Which ever one you choose)

Most all the RC sponsors that sell live goods are very good doing business with; click on the sponsors tab. Living 50 minutes from a reliable saltwater store, a lot of my purchases are online; I do my homework, and have always been happy. I think the best place to get corals are from other reefers whose systems I admire! If you live close enough paying them a visit is always awesome, not only do you get to see the whole set up, but how the grown out coral will look, as well as getting great ideas as per lighting and placement.

awwww Markheim's has some nice staff, only a couple that even know anything about marine aquariums..But they are nice..Thats why most staff will ignore you wile you want marine items..Just like you don't want to be a fish guy and have someone blast you with questions about Greenwing Macaw care :spin1:
