Where to get a custom sump?

you might just want to try one yourself, acrylic is fairly easy to work with. but check out the local forums for the boston area, perhaps a fellow reefer in the area makes them.

Just get a 30g tank and get the baffles cut by a glass shop. It is much easier and a lot cheaper to do it yourself. plus its fun!

I thought about doing it myself but I know that if I mess up and half to buy materials 2x then I might aswell had bought one.

Once I get the plans drawn up and see how much labor it is actualy going to require I will see if I want to do it myself or not.

Just build it yourself, I designed and built my sump and refugium myself based on one of Melev's designs out of acrylic. It was easier than i thought. The most that can really go wrong is having leaks and they can easily be fixed with glue.

If you are worried about cutting the acrylic just get it cut to spec from a plastics place. PM me if you need any suggestions or help.

it is really easier then you would think; I've just finished bulding my 29 gal sump. All you need is a 29 gal tank (30 x 12 x 28), 5 pieces of glass, and some clear 100% silicone. Take a look at the pictures in my gallery.

Building a sump out of an old glass tank and baffles in incredibly easy. Just make sure you get the baffles cut to the right size (mine were 1/16" too big and I had a REALLY hard time grinding them down to get all of them to fit....

If you don't want to build your own - I will have to second LifeReef. Jeff at LifeReef has been building these things for over 20 years and I can vouch for his craftsmanship. He is also a pleasure to work with. The only downside is there is usually a waiting list.

Also, I can tell you that I have known people that ordered these acrylic sumps on the internet from other sources and they were not packed properly. They were broken when they arrived. Jeff packs stuff like no one I have ever seen. It will get there in perfect condition. Here are some pics of the custom sump and refugium that he recently built for me.

Jeff from Lifereef is excellent to speak with. Incredibly knowledgeable. I've done some extensive searching on the internet, read reviews, spoken to jeff and folks that use his products and it is VERY difficult to find someone un-happy with his products...

I've ordered a custom sump from him. The compact Berlin custom sized for my cabinet. He is also building a fuge for me that will work nicely with the sump.

Give Jeff a call and see what he suggests... Well worth the time.
