where to get acrylic

Were is the best place to order cellcast acrylic sheets. Does most everyone get their acrylic locally or do they have it shipped?

Everyone posts DIY acrylic projects, but I have yet to hear of a good online retailer. The projects I have seen seem to use Acrylite GP, but there are no retailers locally that I have been able to find. Most of the local guys carry extruded.

i would think it would be very expensive to ship a sheet of acrylic. for small pieces they carry some at HD ( more expensive ), or as said above look in the phone book under plastic. most glass shops carry it as well and both will cut it to size for you if you don't have the tools.

I agree. Try to get it local. Here in Jax we have one that stocks Plexiglas G which is pretty good. I can't remember the name of the stuff that the pros consider a favorite. I have seen some on eBay as well as online but I think shipping would make it cost prohibitive.

My local stores only sell full sheets unless I go to a middle man and then they sell me half a sheet at full sheet price... Try www.delviesplastics.com I've ordered from them tons of times for small projects, and plan to order from them again next week for a nano tank. Great prices and terrific service!

All of my local plastics retailers only have acrylic tubes up to 4" diameter. If you ask for 8" diameter they just laugh and say "well I can get it but you won't want to pay for it".

not trying to change the subject but how you you cut the stuff. Do they make a bit for a dremell tool?

you can use a dremell, i use a table saw or router because it's easier the get a nice straight edge.

another possibility might be to check at some local sign shops. This is what i do for a living (signs that is). most companies keep drop form sheets when cutting letters. I know that my scrap is pretty much garbage to me as far as signs are concerned. But i use it myself and have given it away for use in many DIY projects. You might get lucky and find your "Pot of Gold".

Does anyone know which brand is the best to use for a main display tank.
Stick with either Polycast, Acrylite GP, Plexiglas G, and *maybe* Chemcast. There are other cell cast acrylic brands of varying quality but I wouldn't recommend them because the quality varies.

I think I have found a local retailer that carries plexiglass G. It seems like most of the threads on here that talk about working with acrylic use Acrolyte GP, which does not seem to available in my area. I just want to make sure I am getting a high quality acrylic since I will eventually be building a display tank.

Thanks to everyone for the help.
