I know shells don't eat anything but was wondering what to feed my hermit crabs? I got some nori lastnight and threw in a small piece and they all came running from the small I guss, They got there looked at it and left.

I want to feed them something.

ALSO I want to get them some shells for them to swap out when they want.. Is there anywhere local that sells small empty shells?

Thanks

Steve,

If your tank already have other inhabitant, I wouldn't bother feeding the hermit anything. The purpose of the hermit is to clean up leftover food that the fish didn't eat. If you feed them - it kinda defeats the purpose of a "clean up crew."

I have seen shells at Exotic Aquarium. I haven't checked to see if O Street or anyone else sells them.

Well see I bought 10 of them for a 12G nano.
I thought it was 1 per gallon like snails, but after hearing some people on here that's not the case, so now all my alge is gone and I have 10 hungary hermits sitting around looking at me hungry.

Do you know what the stores name was in the mall?

Thanks for the help

dont know it was just a stand in the mall... i dont know if its still there IM sure it is jsut have to go on a hunting mission. :-)

hikari algae wafers!

they sink and don't seem to pollute too much. my emerald crab loves them. eventually I'm going to bait him into a jar with them =/

Cool thanks for all the info..

I just got back from pet connection and bought some good shells if they get so inclinded to switch it up.

and I got some Brine shrimp..

I threw a tiny block in there and shut down the pumps.
2 crabs grabbed a flying shrimp as it went by.
Now they both ate a full shrimp and they are just sitting there..
They haven't moved in 20 mins now.

I think they stuffed them selfs silly with a full brine shrimp.
:)

Be carefull about plopping in frozen foods. Supposedly frozen stuff can be hard on the digestive tract. Not to mention the water they pack and freeze in can be less than desireable and a good way to start up the unwanted algae in your tank. May I suggest you thaw and rinse with clean water before adding.
