Which Clowns Should I Get?

I'm trying to decide which kind of clowns I should get for a pair. I want something interesting looking, but I only want to spend around $100 for both, maybe a little more if they are really awesome. I've got a 55 reef, with nothing too delicate, but I sure as hell don't want a pair of maroons (or similar in temperament). Any ideas? Thanks.

Do you have any existing fish? Knowing this will help.

Well, there is, of course the Ocellaris, not to expensive.
Percula would be about the same as the Ocellaris.
Both of these are cheap, and most often can get along with others.

I guess it depends on what you think is interesting. I love my A. oscellaris clowns for the personality. I personally like A. percula for their looks and they are not very aggressive. Now there are many variations of these (as well as others), but I like the classic three stripes. I do like the black onyx ones though.

If you like black fish, the saddlebacks look nice to me. I also like the yellow belly of the sebae clowns.

Frankly, just look at pictures and choose what you like. One way to save money is to not get the pair as "mated". Just make sure one is smaller than the other and pair them yourself. Just make sure the small one has not been alone long enough to be female.

I'm not totally new, so I know many of the species. I actually used to have a mated pair of occies. I was just asking about some of the less common options and if there were any ORA variations in my price range.

I just had to clean house, or rather my dwarf lion did it for me, but right now I only have 2 bangai cardinals and 2 purple firefish. This is going to change as I add more, so I can't provide a definite list.

Yeah, I had a feeling I don't really have many options. Right now I'm trying to find some spotcinctus. If I can't find any cheaper, I might go with some yellow-bellied sebae.

Westhooligan - they are cool looking, but they also are tomatoes. Probably too aggressive for my setup.

I just wanted to update everybody on my decision. I ended up buying two spotcinctus from SWF, and just got a very nice 5" RBTA from my LFS that also has a second RBTA on the rock, but it's only about 1" in diameter. Just waiting on the clowns to be shipped. I bought 'em Friday, so it should be soon.

Congrats on the purchase. You got the clowns yet? When I get a clown for my new tank, I will be getting a pink skunk. I think they are one of the more under-appreciated clown types.
