Which epoxy/glue?

if gluing corals, any superglue that contains cyonacralate(sp?) will be fine....but use the gel kind, its easier

for attaching rocks....ive used aquamend from Homedepot with great results

Brandon- Aquamend isn't much, although I can't quote you a price.

I also use aquamend for rock. I've used it to do some funky stacking in our nano, to support a little shelf in my 90, and to cantilever a plate coral in our 92.

Two things to know in using it:

1) It doesn't stick to rock very easily and takes a while to cure, so you have to really gum it on the rocks your attaching and devise a way to hold it in place for a while so that it cures all the way. A lot of times I use superglue gel on the faces of the rock with aquamend in the middle. This assures adhesion to the rock surfaces and because the superglue cures quickly, you can usually get the rocks to stabilize a little faster (which could be really important if you're trying to stack liverock in a dry tank without experiencing much die-off).

2) Aquamend can cause your skimmer to overflow, so turn it off/down and/or monitor very closely. This effect is obviously worse the more aquamend you use at a time.

Oh, yea, now you tell me:eek1: AFTER I emptied my skimmer back into the tank:eek: Well actually I knew that already, but did not know how fast it reacts and before I know what happened my skimmer cup was full of clear water and my tank was cloudy:mad: Do you ever get to the top of the learning curve?

Graduate of the School of Hard Knocks;)

Thanks Brian! Good info...

Am I the only one that always feels like there's something else I need to do to my tank? now I feel like I should probably stabilize my rocks with some aquamend as a couple of them are a bit tipsy... ;)

Norman... let me know if you find the learning slide... I'd love to go back down the other side of the curve! :D

i think the aquamend is like $3.49. It's not more than $4. It's kinda hard usin' it to hold rocks while in the tank. Especially larger rocks. It worked good makin' smaller pillars out of the tank. I really like it for mounting monti digis and caps as after awhile they encrust over it and you cant see the epoxy anymore.

brandon, i usually build my rock the way i want...usually, nothing is too tipsy even before aquamending......but i use the aquamend for safety

I buy the dura gel super glue at wally world. the cheap gel stuff. When they are out, I get the locktite in teh gel. any cyanoacrylic gel will work great and I do all of mine underwater. just take frag out, put a nice glob on and then back into the water and hold for 10-20 secs depending on frag shape and where putting. viola! stuck.

Duro brand super glue gel at Wal Mart is my favorite. I've used LOTS of different kinds and it's the most economical and effective IMO.

FWIW, I buy all of my super glue gel at the dollar tree (3 tubes for a dollar). It's not the most user friendly brand, but with the amount I go through I find that to be my cheapest option.

chadfarmer - What's ic-gel? I tried the coraffix because I got a free bottle of it. It's too runny for my taste. I've had problems with the skin it produces (similar to when you put superglue in water) actually sticking to the surface of the water and then covering part of the coral as I put it farther underwater. I actually had it kill a few polyps on a leptastrea I have.

in case anyone is wondering, the aquamend at Home Depot is $2.97 a tube. Just picked up a couple today.
