for some odd reason I am getting red slime in one local area of the tank- The rest of the tank is doing fine. I have tried to put more flow in that area and also cut the photo period down by two hours-lets see if that helps!!!
That's funny. I have it also in two spots and it is where the flow is the greatest. Around a colony of Mohawks and a colony of Green Goblins. No where else in the tank and right in front of the flow from a maxijet mod.

If you want to remove it. Use Erythromyacin. It's an anti-biotic and it will kill the bacteria.

However it will just come back again if you don't remove the excess nutrients that are causing it. Also, how old are the bulbs on your setup?

I've seen light bulbs be the issue as well. 9-12 months is the longest you should really go as over time the color spectrum of the lamp shifts, more towards the blue side of the spectrum, which just feeds the Cyanobacteria.

IME, I have never had cyano because of old lights. Until recently the light over my fuge (( 96 watt quad PC )) was over 2 years old, and no cyano to be found.

The only time you will get cyano with old lights if the conditions for it are already present. Eliminate the excess nutrients/phosphates and you won't have a cyano issue.
