Which software to get?

Can anyone list some reliable and good photo editiing software? How much are these? I don't have too much to spend but also don't want to spend something on a software that doesn't do very well at all. Thanks.
 
Photoshop CS2 is widely recognized as the standard. That being said, Photoshop Elements offers much of the same functionality at a lower cost. Since you're a student you generally qualify for educational pricing. Check out http://www.academicsuperstore.com

Ya, that one isn't so expensive, thanks! Look at my other thread on my photo editing on this forum if you have time please. Thats what I can do now with this editing program, what do you think? I don't think its very good.
 
I recommend the Adobe CS (Photoshop included). I know it is uncouth these days, but ask around, you may find someone with a copy that you can use. Be warned that there is a long learning curve with Photoshop (at lease for me).
 
Mmm, I don't know anyone around me who would work with this type of stuff, my uncles could possibly have it but I really doubt it. Worth a try asking. Maybe the school would have a tryout thing, I don't know.

I don't think mentionining something is expensive doesn't mean he is going to d/l any software. It actually seems like he want's to do the right thing and buy a program. ;)
I personally use Coral photo, that comes packaged with coral draw.

Oh by the way beerguy, I wasn't ever thinking of getting a copy of that either. I would really like the program though but I just cant afford that cs2 right now lol. I will try the photoshop 5.0 or premiere, which is recommeneded? Of course the premiere probably but is it really that much different.
 
I think theres a elements 5.0 and a elements 5.0 premiere. I will go with the regular 5.0 then. Thanks!
 
Yes, Adobe Premiere is a video editing suite.

t5 - if you are a college student, you might want to check with the computer labs at your school. It is entirely possible that they have the entire Adobe CS installed and that as a student you would have free access to those programs. If so, your school library probably has a copy of Adobe Photoshop Classroom In a Book or something similar. All of a sudden, if you have the desire, you will have a free path to professional-level photo editing software.
