which sump???

ive got two sump designs and one will go onto my 55 gallon tank. Neither is to scale.

I like the first design better because it gives you a larger area for the return. I made the mistake on my first try of having a really small return... evaporates like crazy!! If I were to do it over, i would have a really large return area!!

I use the first one, overall better design. Its the only way ill run mine.

yeah, i kinda like the first one better because the refugium has flow control, but the second does seem more simple because the pump doesnt need to feed two places.

I like the second one better but your going to have a hell of a time finding a palm tree to fit under a 55 gallon

go with #1, i'm glad i did! i have complete control over the flow in the refugium. with the return in the center, you dont have to follow the rule of thumb as opposed to the refugium in the center which is flow should be 3-5X the display tank.
