Which triggers can be kpet together?

I have a 400g FOWL that I am getting ready to stock. I am planning on getting a picasso trigger and I am wondering what others triggers, if any, could be kept with it. Additionally, are they are "rules" on which triggers can be kept together?

Thanks!

Responded in your other thread, but I'll say it here too, I really like crosshatches in a tank this size, since they really have room to move. If you get a nice healthy pair, they look great.

At that tank size, almost all triggers could be kept together, although it's a risk to try the most notoriously aggressive ones such as clowns and queens. There are quite a few people who keep queen and clown triggers with other triggers and together in 180g tanks and get away with it, so in a 400g I dont see why you couldnt. If you dont want to have to worry about a potential war or rehoming going on in your future, I'd just skip the triggers that are known to be tankmate killers.

So basically, you could mix and match any triggers you like in there, imo. It would all depend on the rock work and the size of the triggers though. If you bought full show size adult triggers, I'd think you would be a lot less successful in your endeavor. If you buy a few triggers all in the 3-4" range, you've probably got a long time until you even begin to have to worry about aggression. I kept 5 triggers in my 210 successfully and saw almost no aggression at all. Once or twice a week I'd see my clown chase away humu or something of that nature, but there was no biting or attacking, just some tail posturing and the other guy would head the other direction.

picasso's can be on the mean side so not sure if I would try a trigger with zero attitude like a crosshatch. I am sure you would be OK for a while but as they get bigger issues might arise. Bluejaw, sargassum & crosshatch are 3 triggers which many state can be used in a reef.

I have a hawian/black durgeon & he has zero attitude. I am considering crosshatch, niger, bluejaw, sargassum or pinktail in my 475g tank. Probably 2-3 triggers is what I would like to do

I would think a Niger &/or Pinktail would work with a picasso

Most should work fine in a tank that size....I would avoid Queen, Clown, Undulate, Titan, Yellow Margin. That's just my opinion, a lot of people have had Clowns in "semi-community" tanks, but I would still be leery of them long term.

What are the dimensions? I had a 240 96X24X24 with 4(CT, 2xhumu and Niger) triggers and was fine for 3.5 years. The strange part is that the Niger was the meanest fish in the tank.

I have to give away my picasso about 5 inches long. Love him to death but he bullied all my fish and they are all hiding from him.And tried to bite my finger all the time.

My tank is about 8'6"x36x30. I was thinking 2 triggers, a puffer, 2 tangs, an eel and a pair of maroon clowns. Just trying to decide which type of each kind.

I would avoid picasso. Pink tail picasso are not aggresive. Maroon is nice and get along with yellow tang . Only one maroon . Tangs has to be the same size if you're planning 2 of them, and has to placed at the same time. Don't know anything about eel (look scary for me.Hope this help.

ALL Triggers have the potential to be aggressive...Period

I had a Huma Huma for 5+ years that was the least aggressive fish I have ever owned. My Male Crosshatch is rather nasty at times. You never can tell.

All Triggers can be risky.

I'd be more concerned about that in a smaller tank, but in this size, there should be enough room for them to be OK. Picasso triggers are kind of medium on the trigger aggression scale.

I assume you mean pink-tail trigger (Melichthys vidua). I'm not aware of any Rhinecanthus triggers that go by "pink-tail" or "red tail".

Maroons can be kept in pairs, so I don't agree with the only one rule. That said, once you have an established pair, there's a reasonable chance that the female will be the most aggressive fish in the tank.

You do need to beware keeping clownfish with eels, since they can be a slow, tasty snack.

Avoid an Undulate- probably the most belligerant of all the fish in the worlds oceans...they will kill and attack for the sheer pleasure of it...
be VERY cautious with a Clown and a Queen...they will go insane one day...
Fuscus...bit of a wild card- but will also go postal one day, probably...
I have been very lucky with my Humas- Rhinecanthus Aculeatus- never had a mean one...my Rhinecanthus Rectangulus- (also refered to as a Huma or Rectangular Trigger) have always been more aggressive than my Aculeatus...
Pinktail, Sargassum, Red Tail, Crosshatch- all relatively peaceful...
with the Crosshatch- get from a great place like LA/DD or Les-- they need to be properly decompressed when caught or they do not fair well...and they are wayyyy to expensive to lose...good luck!
Get as small a specimin as possible, have lots of live rock and caves set-up...

Undulated is just mean. I have seen a 2" one kill a 4" niger. I had a trigger tank back in the 90's nitrates around 60-80 and the queen just ate way to much. Undulated (1 1/2") which was the smallest and the queen(6"), clown (6"), Niger 3", Pinktail 3", Huma 2", Rectangles 2", I was surprised they all got along.
