white out

I attempted to use ICH KICK or KICK ICH (whichever) in my reef to treat a powder blue that would not shake ich for several weeks. After the regiment of treatments, which is tough to estimate due to the need to know water volume in a 210g with a 75g sump, ton of rock and corals,...........anyway about a week ago one of my hammers fell over. Not sure how long it was on it's side, perhaps a couple of days, either way now it is white with green tips.

I read about corals dumping their (Zooxanthellae?) for perhaps stress reasons. Do not know if the laying on it's side resulted in this, perhaps in contact with a leather coral, more likely the treatment because I also lost 1 SPS during the treatments that did not fall over just bleached.

I ended the treatments last week and did a 60g water change Saturday also reintroduced the skimmer and carbon to the system.

The LPS has been white with green tips for over a week, still extends full just like normal only it is white/clear - seems (perhaps?) to be getting back a little green - any ideas?

Corals and anemones both will dump their algae due to stress. Sounds like your hammer does'nt like being on it's side. All I can suggest is super clean water, and maybe a little extra special feeding. Might I recomend the "Liquid Life" coral foods. They make three types, it's a little expensive, but it's well worth the price. Good Luck!

I "don't think" it's safe to use kick ich in a reef tank at least that's what I tell everyone just to be safe. If you want you could try maybe paraguard but I still shudder at treatments inside the display tanks, I lost a lot of stuff once because of a "reef safe ich remedy".

Sounds like it expelled its zooxanthellae due to the kick ich treatment. I would just provide it with good water quality and good meaty feedings (mysis, krill, etc) and hope for a speedy recovery.

Best of luck with it.

It claims to be reef safe, but who knows.

Always remember the fact that "Paper CAN'T Refuse Ink"......Don't believe all you read.
