white patches on a Kole Tang

RT65

New member
Went to feed my fish this morning, and noticed that my Kole tang developed these white patchy areas. Nothing new has been added to the tank, the areas are not raised, and hes not rubbing himself on anything. Parameters are
Salinity 1.025
ph 8.3
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
temp 80 during the day 78 at night.

Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures. Thanks for your help

Hes currently in a 30g cube (I know thats way too small, but my 75 sprung a leak, and I saved him and put him in the cube until my 75 is back up and running, it should be only a few more days.) So hes in the cube til the nitrates cycle out with a mckosker wrasse, and a pair of common clowns with some soft corals a misc snails and shrimps (the same fish he lived with in the 75). Hes lived in the cube now for about 2.5 weeks and hes been eating the whole time and has never acted any differently. Even now hes still acting completley normal. It just looks like a pair of jeans that had bleach spilled on them.

I'm by far an expert, but it looks like some sort of fungal infection to me. Or maybe bacterial? Either way, you should get him out and qt him with some meds. I'd start by looking into melafix and pimafix. You can treat the fish with both meds simultaneously and that way you have all bases coverd...since one treats bacteria and the other treats fungus.
