i just bought 2 common clown's, put them in the tank and one has a tiny white dot on the outer clear part of his back fin and the other one has one just under his dorsel fin. are clown fish usally absolutley spot free?

Hi Stephen.

How about a pic? A small white spot can be ich but with only one and no pic it is hard to tell exactly what you are talking about.

clowns should look like clowns although they can develop different darker areas called Melanism when they are stung by the corals they are swimming by or hosting in; but that is a darking of pigment.

my camera's not up to it! the clowns have got i few tiny white crystals on them. the ones on their bodys are harder to see, you can only really see them as their swimming away from you, but the ones on the clear outer part of their fins are easy to see though theres not many. their not rubbing against rock yet but i bet it wont be long. do white spot treatments rid you tank of white spot in marines? when i had tropics i lost all my clown loaches to it. im very very worried.

Hi,

The treatments like bottled ones in my opinion are not that great. I don't actully believe there is one out there that will kill all the parasites and rid the tank of them. Maybe slow down reproduction or somthing like that??

If you truly want to rid ich from your tank it needs to be fallow (no fish) without fish there is nothing for the parasite to host and continue the cycle.

Hyposalinity or copper in a QT tank can get rid of your probelms.

The fins are the growths on the like cotton? are the spots on the fish multipying, meaning do you see more today then yesterday?
