White Spots on Clam

Hello Everyone,

I have a small Crocea clam (4 inch) that has small white spots (similar to a larger ich on fish although I know that is not what it is). They are all over the mantle and also the foot. Any ideas as to what this may be? I have another clam in the same tank and it looks clear.

They are about the size of a pin tip and they do not look like snails (or at least they are way to small to see any shape but a salt appearance) I can try and get some photos tomorrow and send them.

Thanks

Knop described this disease in his Giant Clams book. I experienced it once a few years ago with a sick crocea that I bought for a couple of bucks at a LFS. I don't remember exactly what he called it, but I believe it was similar to marine ich, where the parasite would attach to the wall of the mantle.

It did not seem to bother the clam, which displayed normal mantle extension. I treated it like ich, and used a daily dose of Garlic Xtreme in the tank until it disappeared. Sorry, I don't recall how long it took. The clam made it through fine, though, and has exchanged hands twice since it left my care.
