White spots on Monticap?

Hey everyone,

Just brought home two frags of montipora and they have sections of white? I don't believe they had this problem at the LFS, so I'm a little stumped. My lighting is 4X54w T5's and they were using metal halides at the store. I'm sure it's not my parameters because I checked them right before putting them in. I also have another monticap that was already there and he's doin fine. Any ideas on what's going on?

Yeah, those are getting eaten bro. More then likely Monti Nudibranchs. Be sure to inspect any other Monti piece(s) in your display...digi's, stellata's, undata, setosa, etc etc

That's what I thought too, but I couldn't find any eggs and I haven't seen any of the little bastards yet either. I moved the frag to my quarantine tank though and I have been checking it on a regular basis. They have polyp extension but white spots still there. Still no sign of the nudibranchs though?

Its not very common but sometimes montis can come with tiny flatworms, they aren't a huge problem unless they are in quantity. It looks like those frags might have them. Nudis eat away tissue and don't leave any live tissue, whereas flatworms nibble and eventually cause the coral to die from stress/damage.

Do a dip in Lugol's or some iodine mixture, it will kill either pest.
