Who has bought from TY @Ocea products?

I have emailed a couple of times and got real quick responses not answering all my questions. I have called and not gotten a return call. What's the deal, anyone know?

I have... :wavehand:

Hate to say it, but thats about how the customer service is... I know Ty is wicked busy now... I spoke with him a few times on the phone, and e mailed back and forth with him about every day while my work was in progress... I was happy with my end products though... ;)

Wildman,

I bought a stand and canopy from them and they did a good job. the measurments were perfect except one issue. I asked for my stand to be accesible from the side and they didn't do it. They knocked off $100 from the total and still offered to remake it. With that said I too has issues with them not replying to some e-mails and phone calls in addition to not answering all my questions but the end product was excellent and you can't beat the price. They are a honest, quality company but are very busy. My advice would be to buy from them but you MUST provide accurate information on what you want and ALWAYS follow up with a phone call when you wish to buy from them.

Ok, so I finally got a hold of him today. He said he just does this on the side and has a full time job. I suggested he might note this somewhere, maybe on his website. I get uninterested when I have to track someone down to sell me something.

Does anyone have a pic of their tank with the black silicone seams?

No one I know of in this area got the black silicone... I think the Rev got his with black silicone though... I don't think he's posted pics anywhere yet though...

As others have noted, communication with Ocea is BAD.
I tried to get a tank through them.
After 3 or so deadlines that weren't met and extremely bad communication, I gave up.
I think Ty is a good guy who genuinely means well, but he's got a lot of work to do to get his business in order.

So, I ordered a tank from them. I have spoken with him a couple of times and emailed several times as well. We will see how it goes. As I said above, I mentioned he should make people aware he only does this on the side but, he didn't seem interested. It's too bad. He has a business where people are begging for product and he only wants to work part time and doesn't seem worried about losing business. I want to say let me run the business and you just make the tanks. He would make a killing.

I got a stand and canopy from him, They were very nice and a great price, I have a friend who got a rimless with the black silicone and it turned out real nice. I think he is a good guy but if you need something immediately you should probabaly stick with a name brand, but if you need something custom the choices are limited.

Very interested to hear your opinion on the tank and the whole experience.
Was it worth the wait from your first post on 4/1?

The wait wasn't a problem. We are doing a large addition to the house and have had to move out. I am going to move everything to the new tank when we finish and move back in. It will probably take a couple more months.
He told me about four weeks, it's been six or seven. I haven't seen it in the daylight yet, but what I have seen I am very happy. Maybe I can get a pic tomorrow.

I've been wondering where you've been Travis... :) Glad you got your tank... Did you only have a tank made, or did you have a stand/canopy made aswell???

I just got my new one from Ty last week. I wasn't in immediate need of it, so a little wait didn't bother me. The wait wasn't very long, really, though. I haven't put water in it yet (hope to do that this weekend), but am very happy with the construction.

I bought a canopy for my 150 gal from Ty a couple months ago. My previous canopy was too short (top corals were getting burned) and only opened from the top. Ty worked with me quite a bit to come up with a custom design for a double-hinged canopy that was also taller. It opens from the front for easy access on a daily basis, but it's also hinged in the back so I can get big pieces of live rock, etc., in and out of the tank without having to take the canopy completely off.

The design works pretty well for a first-run. The hinges aren't as well supported as I would like when both are in use, but the truth is I almost always only open the front, and it works great for that. I had some of the same phone tag and took-longer-than-promised issues that others here have mentioned, but in my case it was more important that I got what I wanted than that it be done on time. There was also a small issue with the stain not matching my stand perfectly. I gave Ty the Minwax stain number for my stand, and I even mailed him the cover for the feeding hole on my old canopy so he could try to get the new canopy to match the existing stand. When the canopy was delivered, I put it side-by-side with the stand, and there was a definite, but small, mis-match. But I accepted delivery anyway, and by the time I got the lights installed and the canopy up on top of the tank, it was really hard to see that there was any difference at all.

So overall, I'm a very happy customer. I really felt like I got my money's worth - $250 for a custom-built 2x5' canopy seemed quite reasonable to me, especially considering the amount of back-and-forth time it required of Ty.
