Just as the title states. Many people say if you EVER have ich in your display you MUST remove ALL fish for AT LEAST 6-8 weeks. I have in the past had fish with ich in my display that perished fish that i had bought from crappy LFS and they lived less than 4 days, all fish that where allready in the system are still thriving never showing signs of ich in 2 years. I have never been one to QT fish. So when i introduced a fairly large blue tang 5.5" 2 weeks ago it is now showing a few spots of ich and it has been for about a week and a half. No other fish show any signs of ich. the blue tang acts fine and is eating like a pig, i am feeding garlic soaked food and UV strilizer is up and running and i have raised temp to 82. Can i leave the fish and the tank and the ich die off?

Hi, I have had an ich outbreak in my display. My hippo had it and I treated him in my display with ick attack and it cleared up!. None of my other fish caught ich either, so I guess it is possible. I agree with you, quaratining fish causes unecessary stress to an already sick fish.

well see that is one of the problems that you encounter if you leave an infected tank with a parasite.

When you add a new fish or the fish are stressed that gives the opportunity for the parasite to attack.

Some say that fish can have particial immunity to the ich in your tank if they were left and fought it off.

But you add a new one and it gets ich, you may or may not have the same outcome as the other fish or if there is a lot of stress or fighting with the new fish it could lead to your healthy, fish contracting the parastie again.

The ich will never die off, it now has a new host to infect, if it were to die off then your new fish would probably not have ich, (becuase I am assuiming you did not purchase a fish visibaly infected with ich).

Personally, I QT becuase I never have to deal with a parasite like ich in any of my main tanks.

If I get a new fish and QT him and hes healthy in the display he goes and its always beautiful to look at and never any stress of adding a new specimen or an outbreak.
