What about cleaner gobies? Anyone ever had luck with them? I'd be interested to see a poll and how long the longest time anyone has ever kept one before.
I've had cleaner gobies (Elacatinus oceanops) for years in the past (you can find that species captive bred), but the one cleaner wrasse I had didnt last a month.
I've had mine for 6 months now. He is very happy and healthy.
Are these short lived? Is there something I should be looking for that would indicate he isn't doing well?
I tried a couple when I first started out but they didn't last to long. They wouldn't eat anything. I didn't know all that much about them back then, but I'm guessing they might have faired better if my other fish were not in such good of health? Who knows.
All my fish are in good health. The PB gets a spot or two now and then, which is why I got the cleaner. He cleans everyone, and also eats whatever I am feeding, including nori.

Well, there you go. Eating the prepared food is probably what's keeping it alive. Cleaning your fish is cool, but that's not really something you would want to see on a regular basis if you know what I mean.
