We are thinking about upgrading to a new tank when we move next month.
Where is the best place in town to buy a complete tank - stand - canopy? I don't have the time or desire to build my own this time......
We are looking for either an Oceanic or AGA with a nice Cherry stand and canopy.
I haven't decided if I want a 150 or 180......

check with Marcye at SITC, she's gotten me a couple of things that were the same price I could get them online without the shipping. Otherwise it's been awhile since I've noticed but Fishy Bus. use to have the best tank prices but I didn't care for the quality of their stands.

i drove out to nolans aquarium in lakeland for my old 55. they have great tank prices-but it's a drive. and i'd go with the 180. good luck

IMO, Go for a 180 72x24x24 or a 240g 72x24hix30wide
The 24 vertical is plenty, any more vertical is difficult to reach into, harder to light, etc.
The 24 or 30 front-to-back makes for nice room to aquascape

Both are great tanks. I had originally ordered a 150 60"x24"x24" but just before the builder started, I bumped it up to a 180.

But to suggest a tank builder. Go to http://acryliccreations.biz/. that is where I got my tank and they will drill it wherever you want for a closed loop plus they can do many other things.

Thanks for the tips!
I'm working on my wife to buy the 210 that is listed here..........
She's concerned about the depth - so I may wind up with something along the lines of 72" x 18" x 30".

Are there any good stand / canopy makers nearby?
I've made a couple that looked really nice - but I just don't have the time to do it myself.

Depth...one thing I have learned...the more depth u have in ur tank the better/easier ur aquascape is and can be...like rdmpe said....go with the bigger depth and not so tall....IE 120 or 180 sizes....my 2 cents

Your best bet is to find a used tank unless you want to spend $2000. I see some great deals on here sometimes.

I paid $370 for my AGA 125 gallon tank from petland but I knew the manager and got a discount. Then I built my stand and it was about $200 in material. I really like the size of the 125. Its long enough to keep large tangs and its not too deep. Plus its a lot cheaper than a 180+.

I'm thinking along the same lines (or should I say my Wife is)
I definitely want a 72" tank and at least 24" tall, maybe even 30".
Where I'm getting the grief is the 24" deep.
I'm not planning on going nuts with LR. We currently have about 150lbs in our 90.
It's been running for almost 5 years now, and that's about all I want to use.

After losing all our hard corals a few years back (remember the bad batch of Instant Ocean??) I have pretty much stuck with softies.

So this tank is going to be more about room for our fish to swim.
Gotta watch out for the Tang Police

FYI im on the hunt for a 125 or 180 right now, havent checked sitc yet but fishy business had some great prices, well worth a call when you decide what size.

buying mine from nolans in lakeland

i can uderstand your thinking on the" 24" but that was one of the reasons why i picked the 150 xtra tall

mines 48 24 30 i would possibly recommend the 135 gallon then
i think its 72 18 24

nolans has some good prices. and perfecto now includes plumbing kits with thiers.

im getting my 150 with extra tall stand (39 inches) and extra tall canopy drilled (oak) for around 900 with plumbing

Hmm - I may take a ride to Nolans this weekend. And will definitely check out SITC as I buy all my supplies there.

It sounds like the 135/150 may be the way to go. I can go with a 30" tall tank since I won't need tons of light for the softies.
And if I do want a nice cap, I can place it up fairly high.

We don't close on the new house till 11/1 - so I've got plenty of time to decide.

Thanks again for all the info!

Hey, Nick
Glad to see you are getting your feet wet again.
For a stand, try to get in touch with Jean Poitras. He does maintaneces as The Reefkeeper, and has building some real nice stands. He has a website, but I don't remember the url right now.

i always have recommended nolans for tanks. don't even think of buying livestock there though!!! i got my 55 with canopy for around 300 bucks IIRC, and it was a pretty nice one.

Hi Rick,

I never really left.....LOL
Just slowed down a bit. Our 90 is still doing fine - and I still can't stand the T5 lights - so I'm taking this opportunity to go back to MH/VHO. Assuming I can get my better half to go along with it....
Thanks for the info on Jean - hopefully someone has contact info for him. Cause I really don't want to build another stand......

Mike, i think their number is 863-667-3500. 2400 HW 92 in Lakeland. I got my RR 55gal All-Glass with canopy with extra height in sump area cabinetry for either 250 or 300 bucks. Too long ago to remember now. You can probally work him down on the prices, he knocked a few off when I went there. I ended up dealing with him directly. It may be a drive for you though.
