who is the best?

ocea had some tanks on display at our frag show a month or so ago & they had them priced CHEAP. i asked if that was their normal price & he said "no...these are 2nds. they were refused by the owner for unacceptable silicone work..." lets just say that if the 3rd world employees at glasscages worked there, by his standards, a tank would never leave the plant LOL

the silicone job the was rejected looked better than the silicone on my Oceanic 50 tank.

that being said, i have no problem w/ my 29 display tank that i got from glasscages, but if i was doing a bigger "show quality" tank, i'd be calling ocea

I ordered a 180g tank from ocea about a week ago and ty was great to work with but since I don't have the tank yet I can't speak to their build quality. Hopefully I will in the near future though.

What did your aquarium cost? Did it have anything special with it? (reef ready, trimless, ect..)

The tank I ordered was reef ready with dual corner overflows, 3 side starphire, and euro-braced. 1.5" drains and 1" returns. I'm not sure if its ok to post prices here but if you'll PM me, I'll be happy to share the price.

I also had a bad experience with glasscages.com. I got a 55 and a 130. The 55g broke. Luckily, I had it in the garage doing a test run. The 130g had silicone running out all over and the glass paynes where not put together even. I also did not like the way they built their supports around the tank. Glasscages did give me my money back for the 55g and I took it to a local glass shop and they fixed it and did a better job on it than GCages did.

Well I am not going to go with glass cages. To many people have negative things to say about them, not enough positive. I may go with ocea. Not sure yet.

I have bought three tanks from Glasscages. Actually, the quality of the tank (all low iron glass and custom) was great. I would do business again with them. The price is unbeatable.

I have seen a GC rimless starfire with black silicone up close, I think GC may employ child labor. The price certainly reflects the workmanship.

child labor, no.....but lets just say that every time i've been there, me the owner & 1 worker there were the only ones that spoke english

but yeah, the price is unbelievably low. this week i bought 1/4" glass pieces to make a 30x6x16 tank, 3 baffles for my sump & 4 pieces to make corner bubble traps & it was $40....3 local glass places quoted me $100+ for the same

The owner nice to you? I found the guy on the phone quite rude especially when I asked for cleanly polished edges... I am glad I went acrylic I just could not afford a custom glass tank the way I wanted it.

if you talked to a guy, then you talked to the owner....but yeah, he's a nice guy in person. i think on the phone he comes off a bit rude, but i imagine at his low prices he gets alot of "window shoppers" & i'd imagine that would get old to deal w/

Hey guys, what about the Oceanic tech series? They use the starphire glass, the way they brace it I dont mind either, it doesnt have that stupid bar going down the middle. Does Oceanic make a good quality tank? For some reason I think they do. They come reef ready as far as I understand. I could probably have my LFS ordor one for me, becuase they came up as the dealer.

Side panels are not really the important sides. Its the front. One of the sides is actually right against the wall! I was thinking of getting only the front side starphire in my custom ordor to save money because of that reason. What do you think I can excpect to pay for a 90 gallon tech series? Also, does the ultimate series have rimless tops? There is a photo of a tank in that category that is rimless at the top.
Thanks.

whatever you do dont go with glasscages...i local reefer in our area had to file a claims dispute to get his money back

Glasscages is a high volume shop. As they say in business school, you can provide top quality, low prices or great customer service - pick two. Work closely with Glasscages and you can get low prices and good quality. They don't have oodles of time to spend with each customer. Miscommunications that result in fabrication of a product that was not what you wanted will not be resolved easily. Fax them a design that you want with detailed specs and if they think that it will hold water, you will get what you want or they will resolve the issue. Or spend more elsewhere and you can get handholding and a higher price. Your choice.

I will be receiving a 260g. tank from Ocea this week. Ty has been a pleasure to deal with. If the tank is as good as the pics that he sent, I am sure I will be very well pleased. The pricing was nice and the shipping from Ala. to Phila.,Pa. was less than I would have expected. I also have a 24"x24" starphire tank from gc and it has held up well ,but yes, the finishing touches could have been better.

Can anyone tell me what I can expect to pay for a 90 gallon Oceanic tech aquarium, with the stainless steal stand? Their site doesnt say. I also have to wait until Friday to talk to the owner with my LFS because he is only in Friday. Thanks.
