Who's built a Kalk Reactor?

^^^

I'm thinking of drawing up some plans for one, and would like to see some of the different plans/designs if you have any pics.

I know Esquare had an interesting design with the stirring pump underneath the reactor (can't find the pics though).

Also, any idea on how large I should think of making it, since it will be running on a 30ish gallon cube, with about 45g of total volume in the system?

i did the same one as trout but mine was a 4in. diameter with a maxi jet 400 on the side, best way to go and real easy to build.

I built a square one out of glass with two 1/2" bulkheads attached to a maxi-jet 400 and a 1" bulkhead on top for adding powder. It's not the conventional kalkreactor but it's what I had on hand. It's been up and running almost 2 years without a hiccup. I still need to find a timer with one minute settings to make it completely automatic. I've just been plugging it in manually when I'm gawking at my tank. :)

Did you see mine when you were over?It 6in PVC w/ a maxi jet on the side.
I didn't see it, but that's what I was thinking of doing, except with 4in acrylic tube.

itZme,I like how one of the tools is beer
except it shouldn't be optional.

any input on how large (tall) I should make it?

How much powder/slurry should there be in the bottom... basically is there a formula for figuring out for (x) volume you should use (y) amount of powder?

Or is it one of those things that doesn't really matter since the goal is just to "super saturate" the water anyway?

I used one of the additional water filters from Lowes. Plumbed the top off water to go in the out side of the tank. added a tube running down the center with holes drilled in the bottom of the tube. Fill bottom 2 " of container with pickeling lime and the water will go out the in side. The water in the container will be saturated with kalk and when water enters it stirs up the kalk to mix with the fresh water.

Does anyone know who sells clear PVC? TJ if I can get my hands on Clear PVC I actually would consider making this myself.

Do you already have the tube Tswifty? I only used about 2' of a 6' tube and have the rest left.

P.S. Pics and what little plans I drew up are in my gallery.
