Post a pic if possible, and also please let me know what your experience has been with them. How many do you have in the tank, have they done well with inverts, etc...

This is my favorite fish...

I am on my second one though. The first one did great for a few weeks, very active, ate great and then one day just stopped eating and wasted away. Don't know why.

Took me a while but just found another one. A little smaller this time, maybe 3-4 inches. Been about 2 weeks. So far so good.

I think in general they are very well behaved. Reef safe. Never seen them bother any inverts. The first one was a pussycat. Never bothered anyone, just minded his own business. The second one is a lot like that but have seen a few acts of aggression towards some of the other fish, my yellow wrasse in particular. Nothing serious. Just a quick chase and thats it. Other than that he's great.

I have read some people saying they are difficult to keep. This being my second, jury's still out.

Good luck

will, thanks for throwing out your experience and the pics. They really are a cool looking species. Good luck with your new one.

Did you end up buying from an LFS or an online vendor?

On my second one also. Had the first one for 5 months, acclimated well and got along fine with all his tankmates but had a real problem with his own reflection in the glass. I came home one day and it appeared he somehow broke his jaw. He went to the sand shortly after and I never saw him again.

The new addition has only been with me for about 3 weeks. I have a Yellow Coris that is the same size that I had some concerns over but they get along quite well. Unlike the first one he has been out since the get-go but his internal clock schedule is a little off my lighting schedule but he's starting to get used to it now. Started eating right away and already learned to eat pellets and the nori along with the standard offerings.

I have 4 Sexy shrimp in the tank and theyre still there so looks like I should be OK, only time will tell.

I bought from a LFS. Nervous about shipping them so I've just been keeping an eye out when I do the rounds of the LFS's.

i have one, for about 6 months in my 240g
he is really a great fish i dont have any inverts so i dont know if he bothers those

he doesnt seem to be very aggressive i have lots of small gobies and a few other wrasses and he doesnt bother them at all

If you're talking about my pic, that's a filamented flasher. Actually he jumped the other night and lost him. Bummed.

I had one, he was great before he jumped. Reef-safe, ate pests, peaceful, and got prettier the older it got. I just hate to spend another 60 on floor ornamentation

I have one that I've had for a few months now. Pretty big one too. I have him in my sps tank with a harlequin shrimp. So far no problems. He seems to get along with all the other fish including a Wardley wrasse.

He eats like a pig when frozen brine and mysis shrimp is fed. Also, likes formula one frozen food.

A beautiful fish. I got mine from an online vendor at a good price $45.

I'll try to get a better picture of him this weekend. Got him several months ago from a LFS in NJ. Mine hid for a couple of weeks. I would catch a glimpse of him on my way to work in the mornings when the lights were out. Now, he's out and active. He gets along with all my other fish including a mccosker's wrasse, a scott's wrasse, an orange shoulder wrasse, and a velvet wrasse.

I got all my wrasses from Aquatic Obsessions in Iselin, NJ. Since you are from Philly, you may be familiar with NJ and he is near woodbridge mall. I bought all my wrasses and anthias from him. I used to purchase online but his prices actually rival liveaquaria.

happy reefing...

Not sure of the exact differences. Same family of wrasses I believe. They look similar be not really the same. The body of the blue flasher is mostly blue. The filamented is mostly orange. The filmaneted is more common.

see thats what i use to think the blue flasher is only blue when he flashes other than that he just has slight blue lines when he is not flashing. most photos are of them flashing.

I had one for 3 years until I squished her when moving rocks around after she went under the sand :[. Really stupid on my part. She was a great fish and strikingly beautiful.

My first attempt to keep two together went very well, but another fish killed the male of the pair (and I had that radiant for a year). So after removing the aggressive fish, I moved a smaller male radiant wrasse I had in a 40g to the tank with the single female in it, thinking it would be fine. She responded very aggressively and the little male was dead within minutes. I had the smaller male for about 6 months in the other tank and he was doing well previously.

I haven't had any mysterious deaths with these fish, and I got all of them from the same LFS. I know a lot of other people have though, so be careful with purchasing one.

My big male was huge, and I bought him that size. He decimated my shrimp population... Ate all 5 of my cleaner shrimp, but he was worth it. He was my favorite. He didn't eat my coral banded shrimp, though.

Some pics of the big male.

Size difference between him and the girl when she was still small.

LukFox, do you know how big your male got? He looks ginourmous :) I have had different accounts on the max size on these guys. Some say 5-6", some say 8"+.

Thanks,
Will

He was 6-7", and I bought him that size. The girl I raised only got 5-6". Some might get 8" in the wild, but I'm not sure if you could get one that size in captivity. I'm pretty sure my girl was done growing, so 5-6" is probably average for captive raised radiants. I bought her when she was only 1.5-2"~.

How can you differentiate the sexes. I am also on my second. The first died very rapidly and seemed to be very stressed by even seeing another fish. This one seems more boisterous. I also have a canary and melanurus in a separate tank. The melanurus is the boss of those two. The radiant is definitely the beauty of the group though. I think it's better looking than my mystery and it doesn't eat shrimp.

i have a radiant, blue star leopard, and a filamented flasher all in my 90 and they all get along great. The radiant spends the entire day searching the reef for any pods he can find but also eats flake and frozen foods very well. As do all of my other fish. All in all i really like the radiant. Great fish!
