I use them and like them. I will be switching to the new Iwaki aqua2 14k's soon but if these were not available I would stick with the Hamiltons. I do not use actinic, just the mh's If I had actinic it would be too blue IMO and I would switch to 10k.
This is fairly acurate for color, in person the purple looks more blue:
I use them, at least for the last year or almost a year. I loved them after they burned in. I have recently started using the actinic again, however, to maybe spurt some more growth and get a little more pop out of my lights although I don't actually need the extra blue because these bulbs are blue enough for me. I think they are a tad bit below in par compared to similiar colored bulbs but they aren't nearly as expensive as the aquaconnects and Phoenix doesn't come SE as the hammys. There's a good chance I'll be ordering another pair next month unless i come into enough money to justify the ACs...
Edit:Sorry, couldn't get the pics to resize correctly from my work computer. They're too big I know
Here's my experience, initially from 14K Hamilton that was getting old, changed to 15K XM, had good growth at first (quite blue, but burnt in pretty well), which quickly dropped off and tank started looking darker (much lower par than expected) so I finally scrapped it and bought a new 14K Hamilton...my favorite bulb out of the ones I've tried.
June 2005 (11 months old with 14K Hamilton after CO2 crash in April)
June 26 2005 (after changing to 400W 15K XM)
September 13 2005 (14 months old with 15K XM burnt in)
December 2005 (17 months old with new Hamilton 14K)
I started off with 14k AB bulbs about 28mths year ago and decided to go to the cheaper Hamilton bulb about 1 year ago when the ABs lost color. I liked the look but nothing really grew. The color faded off quicker than the ABs and overall I would rate them at B-. I just changed my bulbs again last week and went with the AB 14k bulbs. I cant believe the difference in coloration and response by my corals. The colors seem more electric and corals are brightening up after being under the hamiltons. This is my expirence, I just wish I had pics with my new bulbs but my digital camera is dead. I think the added price is warrented with these bulbs---when dealing with something so important (like lighting) I cant justify skimping. I learned my lesson.
