Why is my Chalice cupping ???

I have this awesome Lava Chalice. It is around 4 to 4.5" in dia. It is doing great with more eyes than I care to count. But it is growing in the shape of a cup, not clinging close to the LR. Like it is trying to get more light maybe ??? Wonder why it has grown like this ???

None of mine have done this, but I have heard that is why they have the common name of chalice - because they cup.

I think it depends on the type of chalice, i'm not knowledgable enough to know the separate names for them, but i believe some will stick to the rock work and others will form its own plate like yours is doing. I've seen them do both.

That makes since, never really made the connection with the name.

Some do, some do not (for me). Seems to be somewhat flow related.
