I wish I had known about this before I bought a set.

Ya, it doesn't say anything about not being usable with the G1 radions on the ecotech website as far as I can tell. I guess they are trying to force everyone into upgrading. I wonder what else they will release that will not be usable with my G1.

it actually says on the web sight that you can upgrade any radion fixture with them, i checked before i said yes.

this is the actual print from the web sight
a gen 1 would be counted as a original wouldn't u think

Have an original Radion model and want to upgrade to the newest lenses? Have a current model Radion, but want to go with a wide angle lens?
Not a problem! EcoTech has long committed to upgradability in its products.

All Radion lights have been engineered so that you can swap out the old lenses and replace them with new EcoTech lenses "” no special tools or expertise required. Need help? We've created this online video tutorial to get you started

To clarify my last statement, yes you are able to use the Wide Angle TIR Lenses with Generation 1 Radions. That being said, you will need to clip the plastic standoffs on each lenses to allow for a proper fit. Please refer to instructions included with your Wide Angle TIR lenses.

Thanks for clarifying.

By clipping off the plastic standoff for use with Gen 1 Radions... does that make the lenses not-usable if I ever upgrade Radion fixtures in the future and was planning to re-use the lenses?

I know this is an old thread, but found it trying to verify that the wide angle lenses will work on a gen 1 Radion.

Have to say, this thread makes my head spin! Ecotech says they are "not designed to work with gen 1 Radions" but then says yes they will work? I just ordered a set of these to use with my gen 1, and now I'm sort of wondering if that was a good idea or not? Clipping off something is fine, but I'm reading the instructions online and there is nothing about that mentioned. Has anyone successfully put the wide angle lenses on a gen 1 Radion?

I'm also a little worried about a thread on here where a user found the wide angle lenses spread light over a smaller area than just raising up the standard fixture :-(
Any opinions on if they spread the light as promised, or if I'd be better off leaving the original reflectors on and raising the fixture? I have only lower-light needing corals and have to keep my intensity around 35% or everything gets pale, so I thought these lenses would be a good choice for me to get a little more spread while keeping the intensity down like I want.

Not a big investment financially, so no big deal either way, just don't want to go through taking down the fixture and changing out the lenses if they aren't going to work or don't actually improve the spread!
