Hi All,
I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what this thing is living in my live rock. I'm guessing it's some sort of worm but this is the strangest thing I've seen.
Tonight while looking at my tank with a red flashlight I noticed a thin (1/16 inch thick max) tube sticking out of my live rock going to the sand. At first I thought maybe one of my large nassarius snails was under the substrate and I was seeing it's "tube, proboscus or whatever you want to call it". The coloration was exactly the same. Then I saw fine granules of sand moving through the tube towards the rock. I noticed that the sand below the "tube" was shifting. Being curious I poked at it with a stick
To my surprise there was no snail and the tube retracted quickly into the rock. The thing I thought was strange is that the "tube" was straight as an arrow, not flexing as I would expect something soft would do. Definately alive!
It's probably something common that everyone has seen but I had to post to see if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks!
