I have a Percula and a Marroon Clown fish. I was just curious if they will pair up and breed. My Marroon is currently hosting a Anenome, dont really know the name of it. But will post some pix. Anyone who's know's the answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

No, there not fighting. but i just like to know if they will ever breed or pair up. If not, then i am thinking of trading in one for the same species.

Chances are they are both juvenilles, once they mature I'd be pretty certain they'll fight until one is dead. Chances of them pairing up is zero...though my info isn't based on experience as I have never put 2 clownfish of different breeds in a tank together.

droshi what is your info based on
lockerroom they might breed but the babies would most likely come out a lil wierd
having them get along and pair is more the goal

they can pair up and breed!! Ive read a few times of people haveing a purc and a maroon pair up. The babies all looked different. As long as the maroon matures first so the purc will become a male you should be good. But if the purc turns into a female first your gonna get alot of fighting, and mybe a death. Purcs are tuff for there size so both the fish will get beat up. Good luck, it is a rare site!!

I guess I was misinformed...I was told by a few people that maroons with their aggressive behavior would always be overly aggressive to any other clown.

If it wasn't a maroon I'd say maybe...but I guess you never know.

I have a Gold Stripe Maroon and True Percula that have been paired up for over 2 years in my 46 bow. They have not spawned but you never know. Anything is possible, look at it this way. Fish are like people, no two are alike. What works for some might not work for others. Its like rolling dice. I think you have a good chance if they are the only clowns in the tank and are hanging out together.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

there have been maroon ocellaris crosses, but they are very rare. I wouldnt try it.

Why not try and cross them. If they are rare than you can make some nice money selling them.

Oh boy...that's a whole different can of worms. Hybridization is kind of a touchy subject...people are worried about the genetic stock becoming muddy and such.

Also, I'm not sure that the offspring would be fertile, as percula and maroon clowns are of a different genus. They certainly could be, I just haven't heard either way.

i agree with drosi.

i had a pair for a year , perfectly fine, than one day the perc was torn to pieces. though rare and like most things in this hobby anything is possible. but if your willing to take the chance with your livestock go for it. ill bet against it.

james, as far as making money. 98% of breeders do not make money doing it. its extremly time consuming.

Like I said, my advice isn't from personal experience...but I'd like to point out that just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be. I'd say more research is in store for you.

Goodluck :)
