I'm planning to order corals online, and they're currently housed in a system containing fish. The fish are not sick, but since we've been making heroic efforts to create an 'ich-free tank', I wanted to ask if anyone knows if I can dip, drip acclimate, and then place these corals into the display or if they should be quarantined for some time?
I have Seachem 'Reef dip' which says on the label:
"contains elemental iodine complexed to a protective slime ocat for safely and gently disinfecting corals. It is effective against bacteria, fungus, and protozoans."
I have a setup for quarantining fish, but the corals would have a less sophisticated QT; namely a Rubbermaid tub and fluorescent lighting. Fine for a week, not exactly ideal long-term, so I'd need to figure out a more permanent solution.
TLDR; will dipping corals from a system shared with (healthy) fish in 'Reef dip' (iodine dip) kill off any ich parasites that might be found on the surface of the frag, or do they need long-term quarantine?
