Will my Brute container leach? Plastic smell..

Bought a brand new Brute 32 gallon grey garbage bin for water storage.. I took it from the middle of the stack so it didn't have any crap at the bottom.. It had a plastic like smell and figured it would go away after allowing it to be open for a bit.. A couple weeks later I smelled it and it still has this strong plastic odor when i smell the inside.. I have not used water in it yet..

Is this something I should be worried about when I start using it?

Also, could you recommend a particular 5 gallon buckets that I could use for water changes/top off water that will not leach any contaminants into my water?

Thanks

I would not worry about the "plastic" smell. I'd wash it with warm soapy water, then rinse with a lot of warm tap water, and it should be fine, whether it still smells a bit or not. I use many of these Brute cans (44 gallon types). 2 as my sump, 2 for RO/DI, 2 for limewater, and 2 for new salt water. :)

I use Instant Ocean salt buckets. :)
