Will My maxima move if she is unhappy?

I just aquired a 1" Maxima from the LFS, and I put it on my shallow sandbed next to the rocks. It moved itself to a lying down position and attached itself to a rock. I am concerned because the top shell is getting covered by sand that settles on the bottom. Will the clam right itself if it is unhappy, or will I have to cut the bysals and move it?

It will definently move trying to get the right current and place it likes. You will have to cut as close to the rocks with a razor blade if dosen't detach itself. If your going to place him on the sand bed try placing a rock, frag disk or something of the sort under him and let it attach to it.

I know about the cutting to remove her, but I wanted to know if she should right herself on her own, and how long I should wait to perform such an operation on a newly acclimayed animal?

That looks like a crocea not a maxima.

If it's only 1" make sure you target feed it

Okay thanks, aside from anything else I may have overlooked... Can anyone answer my actual question?

It is definitely a crocea. You dont really need to target feed it though. Target feeding may stress it out. Id leave it be.. it will detach/move if it is unhappy. It should be higher up though. If it detaches soon (which I think it will) bury a rock below it in the sand and it will attach. Then you can slowly move it up the rockwork. It does look very healthy.

I got worried about her today and cut her byssals. I moved her to a spot in the sand with a small piece of rock under her. She looks to be happy there for now
