will red wine vinegar free up a pump?

I have an aquabee pump that has a plastic piece that is getting jammed. There is no way to get into the spot where algae is slowing it down. Will red vinegar work to free it up?

It should work, as the vinegar will break down the cell walls on the algae, and soften it up. Is it just the algae that got in there to jam it, or a plastic piece that is not where it should be?

Thanks Jeremy,
Its just algae buildup. I am running balsamic vinegar through it as we speak. My wife is going to love the smell when she gets home.

Oh, Yeah! You should've heard my wife when she came in when I was dumping the collection cup from my BK!:twitch:

Yeah Davey, it's the Deluxe 200. It was supposed to be for my 250g, but since I had problems with the Aquabee on the H&S A150, I threw it on the frag holding setup. It is an awesome skimmer. Bought it after use for a tradeshow, but it was still expensive.
I don't have a sink in my garage, so I use the laundry room. I found out that I need to shut the door and turn on the fan in a hurry!:eek1:

Paul
i will not work very well the Acetic acid concentration is to low to be very effective
there are also a lot of things in Red wine/ Balsamic you do not want in your tank Sugars and Tannins and acid aldhydes
and it is alot more expensive

Go to a Korean Market like Pusan Plaze and grab some Kimchi vinegar. That stuff usually runs between 20% - 30% acid :) Great stuff for pumps!

Pete must have seen me coming out of the shower!!

yes and he said it was a cold day, really cold day

I've had pretty good luck filling up a big pot in the sink and adding distilled vinegar to hot water, then plugging in the pump, dumping it in, and letting it run for an hour or so. Got rid of all the deposits and now runs like brand new. Smelled like hell, but oh well.
