will splitting ricordia eat

I'm fairly new to the ricordias. I bought two specimens that are on the verge of splitting. I've tried to feed, but nothing. Will these mushrooms eat if they have two mouths at the moment?

I've noticed Florida if they have two mouths or more do not eat as often as those who have but one mouth, but... One mouth is dominant and perhaps maybe because its attached to a functional gut while the other mouth may not yet have a fully developed digestive tract of it's own. The polyp will eat still. Most likely the polyp is still sharing nutrients amongst all its developing twins.

I have yet to see a Yuma of mine divide. None of my Yuma's have split yet or developed in such a way. I have a high light environment so it's a bit more challenging and I haven't been keeping them a fraction as long as Floridas So I have no experience feeding Yumas under those conditions.

I agree with Tallinu, my splitting Ricordea floridas eat, but rarely at the same time. It seems that one will suck the food down while the other just holds it in its mouth. When the first finishes the second sucks it's food down next.

Some rics do not have a well developed feeding response. Just leave the food close by their mouth for 20 minutes or so and they may wrap their mouth around it eventually -- if nothing steals the food from them.

I think yumas are more commonly known to bud off than split (a sign of a happy one?)

Ironically while having a leftover bite or two of mysis while feeding my blenny in my nano i have begun to place a chunk here or there on my rics.

My florida wrapped himself around it and gobbled it down, while my yuma sucked in a shrimp like it were me slurping up a spaghetti noodle- no wrapping just down the hatch!

So fun to watch!

Very few of my ric floridas wrap around their food (probably because I turn the powerheads off so they don't need to wrap around it), they all suck the mysis down like noodles, and I agree, I love to watch it. I enjoy watching them maneuver flake food to their mouths too :D
