I'm not sure if this will work. I need to move a few things around since we will be moving shortly. I want to move my reef into a new tank. My problem is my new tank is 4 feet and my lights are 3 feet. I like these lights and really don't have the money for new ones. It is a 4 bulb tek light (HOT5). Can I put a 3 foot fixture over a 4 foot tank? Will my corals be ok as long as I keep them under the light and just put lower light corals (mushrooms) on the sides? Thanks a lot!

Just center the fixture and then put the low light corals on the outskirts. The 6" on either side will just be a little dim. I used my 48" retro VHOs over my 60" tank for a while, before I could get my new light fixture.

You will be fine. I have a 7 foot tank with a 6 foot light and I have no issues. Follow Anemonebuff suggestion and center the light.
