im thinking about an alternate to MH lighting for my 125 gallon, would an icecap 660, and a ice cap 440 (total of 6 bulbs) be enough to keep all corals and clams??

What do you want to keep? Have you thought about running T5s off the IceCaps?

You can keep a wide variety but to answer the question - NO! it's not the amount of light you put into a tank for the more light demanding animals. It's intensity. There's no substitute for a point source of light and many animals won't thrive without it.

The good news is that there really are LOTS of corals you will be able to successfully keep. You need to do the research though.

check out these two threads. 6 54 w t5s staggered W/ icecap reflectors and over driven by the ice cap balasts should allow you to keep almost anything. High light corals from top to bottom in the center and lower light corals on the ends of the tank..

i have/had 2 96 watt pc's and 3 110w vho's in my 75g tank...
didnt have luck with acro's for long at the top of my tank...

but you might get away with what your looking for...

I keep a derasa under 4 poorly reflected t5's, 6 over a 125 would be more than enough
