I have 90lbs of LS straight from someones tank and about 65lbs of LR i picked up yesterday (i mixed up about 8 gallons of water in a huge rubbermaid and toosed the rock in there with a heater and a SEIO 820 and RIO 2600) If i was to put this stuff directly into a new tank would i need to allow it to cylce? I mean everything is straight from other people systems and is already established. The only thing is the water would be freshly made or possibly even bought from the LFS. I am assuming that it would go through a mini cylce. Maybe 2 weeks at the absolute most.

small cycle due to die off when exposed. you have a new tank that has only H2o in it place it in and let it cycle. check parms once daily it should cycle in about 4-7 days at the most. REEF-ON!!!

if everything has already been established for some time then you probably wont have a cylce but i would wait atleast a week and test just to make sure but should be fine.

the LS & LR, being disturbed can release small amounts of nitrate into system. they need to regroup in new tank. the bacteria has to restart its cycle, may also experience ammonia. protein skimmer and your PH's should be enough. remember to blow off LR with PH's daily to reduce the algae.

a skimmer will help now like nano explained why, i would look into get one while you wait to see if you get a mini cycle or not. Also what size tank are we talking about?

How much room should i have in each compartment of my sump? Its 30" long. Here is a diagram of what it is going to look like. I already have everything except the skimmer, that will arrive in the mail TUE or WED.
