Would you quarantine the 1st fish in your DT?

Would you quarantine the 1st fish going into your DT or doesn't that matter since there isn't anything else in the tank? I guess the real question is this....can a fish actually "infect" the water or rock with something that will remain for future fish? I intend to QT anything going in after the 1st fish, but I am not convinced that it is necessary for the 1st fish...unless someone can shed some light on a good reason?

No, if you are going to do an "active quarantine", you must do that for every fish. Only if you are going to use "observational" or "exclusionary" quarantine, then you don't need to.

The difference is this: active quarantine is a process in which you treat every fish for certain external parasites. My regimen is copper and praziquantel and a six week time frame. Observational or exclusionary quarantine really isn't very effective. This is when people keep new fish isolated for a period, if they die, then they at least didn't infect any existing fish. So - in this second case, if there are not fish to exclude, then there is no need to "quarantine". However, the ONLY time I use that second method is with extremely delicate fish that may not surivive a typical active quarantine method.....
