WOW, most expensive fish I've ever seen...

I think there was an albino arowrana that was a lot more, I think $35,000 or something like that? I can't believe an albino morph on something as common as a koi doesn't happen more often?

That's a cheep koi... A few years back the grand champion koi at the Japan show sold for brood stock for $1.6 million.

I notice it has zero bids, so far. I can't imagine it is worth that much to anybody. I'm no koi expert, but aren't butterfly koi considered a lesser variety, anyway?

There was a "platinum" arowana that sold for something like $85,000 recently. There are freshwater fish out there that are far more pricey than saltwater.

I think a least they should have better pictures ... looks like a bleached goldfish on crack 8)

I don't know if this is still the case, but the blue and gold arrowanas used to go for $250k-$500k a few years ago.

That's crazy. For a fancy Goldfish!!!! I guess it's all relative. Most people think I was crazy spending 200$ on the Rinopias I just got. I thought it was the best deal I've gotten in a long time. A carp!!!! Regards, Tim

$5k for a high quality koi is not surprising. The fish pictured is not a high quality koi. It's just a baby, and its colors haven't come in yet. Just check out sacramentokoi.com for an example of high quality koi. These aren't uber expensive fish, either, just good quality specimens.

The ultra high quality champion-grade fish never leave Japan, the breeders are extremely protective of their champions and won't sell to just anyone.

that is one ugly koi definitely not worth 5k. I have a old friend that went to Thailand and bought half a million in koi. Then grew them up and now are worth 3 times that!

Thats not to say all the really expensive fish are in the freshwater business. What do leafy sea dragons go for, something like $20k?

BTW, I probably wouldn't buy that koi for my pond even if it was in one of those bargain tubs the lfs puts out at the end of koi selling season. Its not particularly good looking. :P
