hey guys, i have a 65G bare bottom reef and i was thinking about adding a few wrasses.
So my list of wrasses that i would like are:
carpenter's flasher
lubbock's fairy
red fin fairy
6 line
whipfin fairy

out of these 5 wrasses, how many and which combination do you guys think would work best? And which ones are the less shy, more swimming about kind?

thanks

PS there are currently no wrasses in my tank, only a pair of clowns

thats a good question and would liek to know the answer. im planning a 125 or bigger tank and one of the things im considering is a wrasse reef.

6 line is very active and definately not shy!

If you get any of the others, probably leave the six line out. They have a reputation for being aggressive with other wrasses.

I had one for many years, it was a model citizen BUT it was not with any other wrasses. And many people write that they are aggressive with other fish as well.

Do NOT get the sixline or whipfin. I have kept both of them, and they were both VERY aggressive. My sixline killed a lubbocks fairy, a yellow fin fairy, and two radiant wrasses.

The whipfin I had was accidentally shipped to me instead of a tonozukai wrasse. Within 5 minutes of being in my 55 gallon quarantine tank, he was beating up on my exquisite, condei, and filamented flasher wrasses.

I think you should be able to keep the other 3 together with no problems.

Also, your tank must have a cover on it or you will find them on the ground sooner or later.

+1 on the whipfin and sixlines both are quite nasty and would kill the others

Have you ever considered a Blue Flasher Wrasse?

That's going to be the next fish I pick up. No real reason of showing that, I just think its a cool wrasse and wanted to make the suggestion.

got a tank cover ready ;)

i have thought about other flashers, but was worried they looked too similar and will fight.

wold a filament flasher get along with the capenter?

Possum wrasse are about as passive as they come, you should have no issues with keeping one with any other semi-aggressive wrasse.

Huge Mystery Wrasse and Ornate Wrasse fan here but I am new to saltwater tanks and no expert on how they would do with various other wrasses.

i was under the impression that flashers/fairies don't need a sandbed and sleep among the rocks?

but which one's ar the more docile species that wont be prone to kill eachother?

You're right. I was thinking along the lines of the sixline.

I guess NEED is the proper word. Sorry about any confusion. Mine really enjoys diving in at night. Same with my radiant and yellow coris.

The 3 sixlines that I have kept have NEVER slept in the sand, and I have always had a sandbed in my tank. They sleep in a mucus cocoon in the rocks. It goes the same for all Pseudocheilinus sp. wrasses.

Your radiant and yellow coris belong to the genus Halichoeres. If I'm not mistaken, all Halichoeres sp. wrasses sleep in the sand.
