Wrasse lovers, a little advice pls

Hello all!

Well, I have three wrasses that are acclimating to the tank temperature at the moment still sealed in their respective shipping bags.

Visual inspection shows that the one is covered in large white spots (ich). I do have the Q'tank all set up and ready to go and was wondering if wrasses are okay with copper treatmeant since I remember reading somewhere that some species of fish are harmed by copper treatments. Also, should I put some sand in tupperware containers for use in the q'tank for these fish? Its been bare bottom all along, but looks like these guys are going to be in the Q'tank for an extended period of time.

I'm not sure if it matters but the wrasses are a Ruby Head Fairy Wrasse, a Labout's Fairy Wrasse and a McCosker's Flasher Wrasse.

Thanks so much for your help.
:)

I put some sand, about a couple inches deep, in a small tupperware container when quaranting my wrasse. Worked out well, was very cool to see him dive in at night. But with 3 wrasses in at the same time I'd guess you'd need a large container or three separate smaller ones to keep all of them happy.

Thanks dangle. :) They are all crowded together in the bucket at the moment. I guess its too much to hope that they will share the same container of sand. LOL

I could be wrong but I dont think any of these species bury in the sand. At least I know my fairy wrasse do not and instead shelter in the live rock. I'm not sure about copper either but I do know these wrasse produce a lot of body slime which may render a copper treatment less effective.

KT is right. These wrasses do not bury themselves but will tuck in a crevice at night. Sand is not necessary. I'm curious about the "large" white spots. Crypto is very fine in appearance, like salt sprinkles. Are you sure it's ich before administering treatment? Can you post a photo?

Thanks for your replies. :)

As I stated in the first post, my first visual inspection was while still they were all still in the shipping bags (half the bag was blacked out) and under my actnic lights in the main display since I couldn't get the bags to float in the q'tank without overflowing it. It was the Labout's that I thought had ich, but once drip acclimated and in the q'tank, I couldn't find any spots at all. I have since come to realize that the Labout's have a line that is broken up a bit as it goes to the tail. I'm guessing that this is what I saw practically glowing from the actnic lights that I thought was ich. I jumped the gun on this one. opps. ;)

I ended up not putting sand in the q'tank. Two of them slept in the pvc pipes in there and one just slept in the corner. They seem like lovely and healthy wrasses. Just going to keep an eye on them for a while before introducing into my display.

Thanks again for all the help!!!!!:D

Is this what you are referring to?

I side with the one who posted this question. I have concerns for my McCoskers female. She is doing fine, and has a strong drive to eat still.... what is Crypto?:eek1:
