Wtb Asap !! New Reef Ready Tank

Krazy

In Memoriam
Just noticed tonight my 90's center brace finally gave all teh way and its about a 1/2 inch from where it was... God I hope this SOB dont blow... going to lowes now to get a 2x4, drain the tank some to relive pressure enough to push it back to where the center brace meets and make a 2x4 brace to hold me over....

WTB: 90 gallon reef ready tank !!! or a 120 4 foot ....

I just got back from lowes... bought a 24 inch heavy duty clamp, rated for 880lbs... clamped the front and back of the tank, it closed the gap flush (thank god) a temp fix yes, I can sleep tonight yes, but now what do I do ?

I have 2 options I think... Upgrade AGAIN, to a 120 reef ready/ tank/stand/canopy, transfer all my stuff into that...

or call all glass and get a 72 bowfronts new top trim ring as the measurements for the 90 bowfront are the same, (the 90 is just taller)

now does anyone know how hard it is to replace the top trim ring? this is what I think I rather do... would I have to completely empty the water ? or could I leave 1/4 or a bit more in for the fish, then tape off a tarp so stuff dont fall in the tank, I'd imagine it'd be a quick replacement to do ?

HELP ! :(

I've seen a number of threads where the center brace had been replaced with a piece of acrylic (to let the light in); drilled and attached with 2 nylon bolts/nuts at each end to the existing center brace. Do a search and see. From what I've read, works with no troubles.

Yes Yes Yes Tony !!!

I just got off the phone with gary g.

he suggested the very same thing, I am going to use 1/4inch acrylic, make a 90degree bend at the back side of the tank, cut the rest of my centerbrace and leave about 3 inchs, drill 3 holes and use the plastic wingnut screws and wa-laa, the problem is fixed !!!

I dunno what I'd do without you guys and gals sometimes !!!

:D

Hope all works out well for you.

There's a store in Mechanicville called Mechanicville Country Living. The owners son is into reef tanks, and he sells some frags and stuff there along with mostly FW stuff. I think I saw an AGA 110 RR there when I was getting some plumbing supplies for my sump set up. The base would be the same 48"x18, just 30" tall. I purchased my AGA 90 RR and stand from him a few months ago. His prices are pretty good.

Good Luck!

Dave

:)

Thanks for the replies !!

Yes a fix is much better then buying another setup !!!

I got enough tanks in the apartment, lol

I've been to the place you mentioned as well, he had a couple nice lil frags in there :)

I'd still do a search (if you can) before cutting/drilling...should prove useful.

Good luck Keith.

Basically they are an 'everything' store (hardware, equipment rental, pet supplies, etc). They have FW fish and two reef tanks setup with some frags and stuff. I went in there a few months ago to check the price of the 90 gal RR I wanted. When I started talking to Ryan there, I started getting my education about SW, and he directed me to RC to start doing my research. He has reef tanks of his own & is pretty knowledgeable. When I was there the other day I needed to setup my plumbing for my sump. It was nice being in a hardware store with a person who is into reefs who could understand what i was trying to do.

If he doesnt have something in stock, he can order it and have it in a few days.

Update :

Fixed the tank with a quick DIY acrylic brace that will now serve as my new center brace, (thanks for the heads up Gary G.)

Not the most pretty of a job but damn the tank didnt budge a nudge when I un did the clamp :D

1'st pic here is the new centerbrace (the zipties are holding up the old brace where it broke clean off)

2nd pic here just shows how the brace sits on the back of the tank...

all I know is it worked and saved me !!! I will watch closely for the next few days and if it doesnt budge, I should be good to go !!!

(and yes I still run my emperor 400 on my 90 reef ready :p, I run my carbon it it :D )
