WTB Corallife Super SKimmer

Are you suuuure you want one? I have one, and it's a pain in the neck. It has overflowed numerous times, even when dialed down to "dry" skimming. Given the chance, I would purchase something else. I still may. Wanna buy mine? ;^)

I agree with the above Ozzy,

the coralife skimmer could be better. My cousin has one and it is a pain sometimes.

Why not try the AquaC remora or other such smaller unit?

I am not really a fan of the Corallife Skimmer so yeah I would call them a POS LOL!!! but no offense to those who use them. I just think it needs more R&D.

Ciro,

I will try to get a FTS up soon. If I get home early I will take some and post them up on here.

I have one and dont hate it but I dont love it either.....after the chiller addition next month that will be the first hing that get upgraded.....

Your cup fills up everyday? Moses, mine doesn't fill up in a week and i have the venturi valve off. Although, i think my bioload might be small...

2 tangs
2 clarkiis
1 mandarin
1 diamond goby
3 chromis

I feed once a day and add Nori.

Anyone tell me if i'm doing wrong? Pm please.

Terrible skimmer ,not as bad a Berlin but not much better.IMO the skimmer is not the piece of equipment one should get cheap with.

Just wanted to post my 2 cents.

I have a coralife skimmer and have had it overflow all over my floor 4 times. Man was I ****ed. I think I finally found out why. The venturi tube is not consistently allowing the same amount of air, so when you dial it in, your dialing in at that current air flow. You can hear the air flow change all the time. I have recently added an air pump to the tube to produce a constant air-flow into the tube and the level in the skimmer is now constant. I also make sure that the exit port is not submerged to keep the exit flow constant as well. I know this skimmer is not the best but this "band-aid" seems to help --- a lot.

I thought about adding an air pump, but decided to replace the unit instead. Before that, one mod I did that improved performance was remove the molded 90 input tube and clamp 3/4 in tubing straight in from the pump. This moves more water and makes more bubbles. Keeping the water level low (half way between the taper line and the red collar below the collection cup) gave me more foam and nasty dark skimmate. Following the instructions and setting the water level inside the collection cup cone is a recipe for disaster.

One big problem these units have is that all the tubes are too small. The venturi fitting inside the pump attachment is too small and clogs easily. This reduces the amount of air, raising the water level and... well you know, flood! The drain tube clogs easily, filling the collection cup, and the vent holes in the collection cup are too small and easily clog with foam. Arrrrg!

I'm going to go ahead and make that mod to the pump tube also. Good tip. Thanks.

You are right about following the instructions. I've never been more frustrated by a piece of equipment. Yes they are cheap but boy do you pay the price a different way. I feel your pain, brother.

There's not a lot of clearance. I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel. Cut right at the point where the 90 adapter ends. Then you can slip on the 3/4 in tubing.
