Sounds a little familiar?! ...since I am in a similar position, I thought I would try the same thing. I am buying a 180, and thinking of the options... 5-6 foot of head.
1) Seller has a barracuda (3600 gph) for $150. I figured this to be too much pump, but saw a different thread in used equipment where the recommendation to use a ball valve would cut the flow and power usage. Is this right, or would I be unnecessarily be straining the pump? Any engineers out there?
2) I was recommended by a friend to consider Iwaki and Pan World pumps, and have been looking for these used. Any other recommendations, or does anyone have used pumps for sale out there?
I am also looking for a canister filter for carbon if someone has not being used and willing to sell.
