I'll give you the parts list. I built on for my system. It's really just a float switch, relay, cheap extension cord and a small pump you have lying around.

Oh hell no!!! I want the tunze for its safety features. I have a jbj ATO and an aqua lifter but like the optical sensor, emergency float and time on monitoring that the tunze has.
I like your DIY spirit though! I just ordered parts to build an algae scrubber similar to the Clearwater cw-200. Building up to a sump.

Dj, I’m interested in the parts list if you don’t mind pm’ing me.
I built mine from autotopoff.com. It’s probably the same thing as Dj I’m sure, but has three float switches and all materials except for the extension cord came with it I believe. I have had it running for a few years now with no issues, at least 4 years in use. That being said, it’s not the most attractive piece of equipment I have on my tank and now that I have an Apex I may switch it out to new float switches and run it through my breakout box and energy bar.
