I had a large very fast growing very healthy colony of Xenia in my tank
All parameters are good ot almost perfect ( maybe only Phosphate a bit high at .10
This morning the wife feeds the tank no problem and a few hours later almost the entire colony has gone???
Just a few strains left and they dont look too happy???
What could have happened??
all the other corals have no visual effects?
Help please

Just give it some time and make sure you water is ideal but sometimes Coral Just shrinks up for whatever reason.

Something similar to this has happen to me, no long term effects and it came back fine

it didnt realy shrink it just dissapeared.
It was an about 6 to 7" fast growing strain and now there is like a small maybe 1/2" shrivled up piece at the top of it?
I even have one of my blue legged eating that last piece of it.
I guess that means it wasent all too good as I never saw any of my blue legged eat any corals

Xenia has done that to me before, i was told to keep iodine higher; that did not work either, just a mystery....

xenia in my expereience seems to actually like '' not so ideal' parameters.I have 2 systems a 70 softy and a 70 mixed.... in my softy tank which is more nutrient rich than my mixed , xenia seems to grow like crazy and it my mixed it grows alot slower and has even just faded or disapeared like you are describing yours had done.

sanddoller789- that sounds like a personal problem that your husband is having...but i'm sure its affecting you as well..lol. Sorry couldnt help it. :)

Xenia will move and it moves fast for a coral. If it doesn't like where its at it will move. Most of the time it tries to go up. I've seen xenia get twisted and break in real high flow. But it likes high flow high light. Other than that if it just vanished I would look to see if something ate it. Look for small frags of xenia on the sand. Only ways I've seen xenia die is more light added to fast ( they bubble up and bust) or to low of light or low nutreants (they wilt away). Do your water changes and keep it clean just don't make it super clean, have a few fish in the tank. Don't use a ton of carbon, and rinse your carbon good.

WEED.... be happy its gone :P. Do you have a trick for making GSP dissapear to???

+1 :) . Xenia is a good way of making a little extra cash, but you have to watch it constantly. Whenever I think I've gotten rid of it all, it grows back with a vengeance.
