xenia gone

I had a beautiful piece of pulsating xenia for about three years. I glued it into place then to a small branch coral. I rearranged my tanks and decided to pop this piece into my 45 gallon reef. The next day the xenia was eaten, totally missing from the coral.
I suspect it was (a) coral banded shrimp or (b) peppermint shrimp.
Anyone out there want to take an educated guess who ate the xenia?

How long after gluing the coral to the small branch coral did you move it? Is it possible it came free of the rock and is somewhere in the back of the tank? Is it possible the coral had a bad reaction to the transfer and "melted down" overnight? I know that when Xenia and other corals in that family are shipped, the recipient often recieves a bag of brown goo. I can't imagine either of those shrimp really liking Xenia though coral banded shrimp don't have a perfect reputation for their reef safeness.
