Xenia not popping?

I have some xenia that grows great and appears to love my tank. Problem is that is doesnt pop like the stuff at the fish store. I'm not sure what kind it is but it has the white stalk and twisting heads. It used to twist and pop for the previous owner. I do have a nano with plenty of water movement. Its growing great and looks healthy. Ive had it for awhile. Ive been told to check into Iodine or Iodide. Any advice where to look for information? Or is it something else?

several factors will stop/prevent xenia from "popping". Too much water movement is one and incorrect PH (too low/too high) is another. I do not actively dose iodine and have had no issues with our xenias pulsing. What are your tank parameters ? IE: ph, nitrates, salinity, etc ?

i will check them out today after the lights have been on awhile. as for the water movement, i think that i have it just right. it moves everything just a little but nothing seems to be whipped or knocked around.

Pulsation or lack of pulsation isn't a sign of health, good or bad. Healthy Xenia will sometimes pulse and sometimes not pulse and the same for unhealthy Xenia. No one has a clue why they do this (a few hypotheses have been offered, but nothing conclusive). Some stimuli seem to increase it or increase it, but it's not clear why this is in most cases. So, I guess the point is, don't necessarily be concerned if it isn't pulsing, it may not no matter what you do. Then again, you may be able to alter some environmental parameter and it will start pulsing...

Very definitive, I know.

Maybee try SeaChem Reef Plus, it is like the Xenia cure all. (Also contains Iodine and would fix any deficiencies you might have)

my ph was a little on the low side so im going to try that first. the lfs was split on whether to put iodine in or not so im gonna hold off.
