My tank is littered with Xenia and I would like to thin them out. Two problems, I am new to the hobby and have no idea how to accomplish this. If you can tell me an inexpensive way to get my Xenia to you there are yours.
 
i cut mine about every 2 mos, i sell them for 10.00 per head on craigs list locally or take them to the local fish store. I understand they dont ship well.

Problem with these corals is that once they completely acclimate and get a good foothold in your tank they will grow out of control like a terrible weed. they get to the point where you will wish you never had them like me. If I ever start another tank they will not be considered.

I could not agree more about the growing like a weed and wishing I never had them. The sad part is I never willingly introduced them to my tank one day they just showed up. At first I thought it was cool but now it's a damn pest.

What category do you sell your heads under on Craig's?

So do all types of soft corals have this grow and spread out of control nature or is it more with the Xenia family?

I believe last time I just listed them under general. the key is in the key words so that if people search they come up.

I guess hypothetically it could happen with any coral but I think xenia is a more often culprit. They mak be fine for a while and then the next thing you know they are out of control.

I didnt always have this problem with xenia. I have a 37g column which is 4 yrs old. in march I had about 6-8 heads of xenia of which I had for a little over 3 yrs. I switched my lighting that month. I went from 120w vho lighting to 150w Metal Halide with 40w actinic totaling 190w of lighting. Within about a month and a half my 3yr old 6-8 heads multiplied to aprox 35-40. To some they would be happy but my problem was that they were about to overrun/over grow my rare zoanthids. I have alot of ricordea also but the sting seems to not effect them. They are a true menace never to be purchased again.

I have mine under 2 x 250W 20K MH and 2 x 96W Actinic PC for az total of 692W and I swear I can stand in front of the tank and watch them grow.

I would love to add some zoanthids to my aquarium. What kind would you recommend? I am looking to really adding some colour to my tank reds, greens, blues, purples, yellows, etc.

How about trying some radioactive dragons eye zoas or some whamin watermelon zoas. they are very colorful and pretty easy to start with. check this link out for some ideas. http://coralpedia.com/index.php?module=Gallery2&g2_itemId=15
 
ditto to dont - much the same story one tiny little frag is now a forrest !! My LFS said dont but I did - I know take 10-20 frags back to them every couple of months.
