xenia

i have had to silver tipped xenia in my tank for probably two months. during the last week they have shrunk and haven't fully extended like they have been. they are not rotting away or anything, they are just not retracting. i have lots of discosoma mushrooms on the gravel. is there any way mushrooms can sting xenia? i notice that there is a mushroom attached to the same rock.
all parameters are normal. i run a 250 w 20k mh on a 40 gal tank.
i have tried moving it up toward the light but it didn't help, so its back on the floor. calcium is @ 420ppm and ph is @8.3. everything else is normal. thanks

you say all params are "normal" but what are the actual numbers? People say this all the time and then they post their numbers and end up having like 50 nitrates or something. So what are your nitrates and SG? Those can be really important.

And yes, its possible that the mushrooms could be making the xenia close up. But i dont really think it would... Not unless they're actually touching it. I've had shrooms near a lot of corals but i never see any problems till they're actually touching.

I had this happen to me, It ended up that the highly accurate $100 lab grade digital SG meter was way off with the solution that it came with and it took about $120 worth of dead coral before i figured it out. I just use a $12 manual meter now and my tank is doing great.
(I checked and made shure the $12 meter was accurate by compairing the readings with the expensive hydrometer the local reef store is using.)

thanks. also, my nitrates were about 10, so i cleaned my filters and did a water change. my xenia still havent open back up yet.

Check if there is any worms living inbetween the polyps...

MIne has worms living inbetween them and the polyps stay retracted.
