XM 10K yellow

Hi,

This is sort of a continuation to another thread I just started. I took a picture of a new XM 10K and a 16 month old one and thought the color difference was simply due to the new bulb. Since then I've read a lot and learned alot ( as seems ot be always the case in this hobby) and realised that my new XM 10Ks are suffering from the same disease as many others. They are yellow and not 10K at all.

I now have to return these bulbs, which is a pain since I smuggle them up from the states into canada. I thought I'de share this with anyone else thinking of buying XM10Ks.

I'm going Hamilton from now on.

Anyone have anything to say about the Hamilton 14Ks?

You can see the yellow (new) on the left and the old (much whiter) on the right

I don't have any problems with XM 10K (knock on wood) some time ago they had some Q/A issues which led to some problems but they seem to have fixed it a while ago.

My XM 10K burned yellow for the first few hours, but then it went to a perfect color.

I had also gone thorugh XM's 10K and have always thought they were a bit on the yellow side even after burn in with a mag ballast. Then I swithced to Ushio and have been happy with their 10K.

I guess I have bad eyes because the bulb on the left looks more white than the bulb on the right. Neither looks all that yellow to me. I run XM 10k's and am very happy with them overall.

Unfortunatley I didn't take a picture with both the new bulbs in. It was disgusting and had no color rendering at all. I've also been happy with XM 10Ks in the past, except these two new bulbs are terrible.

Wisky,

how long did it take for them to burn in from yellow? I ran them for about 15 hours with no change and then took them out. Maybe I should run them more.

I think most halides have about a 100 hour run in to reach the exact color. Mine were white right away and maybe that has to do with an electronic ballast but ?? If you were RMAing the bulbs I wouldn't think that it would matter that you were up in Canada. Just go through the manufacturer instead of the store.
