Yellow area on rock with mushrooms

Anyone care to venture a guess what this yellow area is next to the mushrooms? It's been there since I bought it about 4 weeks ago and finally got around to taking a picture of it.

I know it's not a fabulous pic... but I'm wondering if it's some kind of sponge or something.

it is really too blurry to tell but more than likely a sponge..does it retract at all?

It doesn't do anything really. But it is a very vibrant yellow. I'll see if I can get a better pic.
